How it works

Getting started takes about two minutes.

After that, the hard parts of healthcare stop being your job. Here's what the relationship looks like from day one.

The first thing you do — and the best place to start.

One visit kicks everything off. Here's what it includes.

A care-coordinator consult

Someone who maps your current care, connects your records, and becomes your point of contact for the system.

Baseline labs

A comprehensive panel at no cost, so your physician starts with a real picture of your health.

An hour with your physician

A 60-minute, unhurried first visit — not 15 minutes. Your doctor reviews your labs, your history, and what matters to you.

You won't have to hunt for a doctor or sit on hold. We message you open times — you tap one. It takes about two minutes, your visit lands within your first 30 days, and it can be virtual or in person. That single step turns everything else on — it kicks off your Welcome Visit Package: a care-coordinator consult, your baseline labs, and a comprehensive 60-minute visit with your physician.

You start a few things. We manage the rest.

What Sandbar starts and manages

  • The invite and the welcome outreach
  • Your labs logistics
  • All scheduling and reminders
  • Referrals, prior authorizations, and follow-ups
  • Bills and benefits questions
  • The proactive nudges that keep your care on track

Coordinator or doctor first?

Both — in that order, on purpose. A care coordinator (a real person, non-clinical) is your first point of contact and gets you set up. Your first clinical appointment is your Welcome Visit with your physician — the 60-minute milestone where your care actually begins.

Your options — and you may not need a new draw

  • Already have recent labs? We can often use those — no new draw.
  • Prefer to stay home? A phlebotomist can come to you.
  • Near a clinic? Get drawn in person, where clinics are open.
  • Easier elsewhere? Use a Quest or LabCorp near you.

Your coordinator sets up whichever you pick, and results come back with your doctor's notes in plain language.

Most plans give you a card and a phone tree. Sandbar gives you a front door — one place to start for anything health-related, and one team that carries it from there. You don't have to know which specialist, which form, or which number. That's our job. See what happens after you activate →

What actually happens, and when.

  1. Within 24 hours

    You're matched and connected

You're matched with a physician, your records begin consolidating, and your care coordinator reaches out. You can message your care team the same day.

  2. Within 30 days

    Your Welcome Visit

You meet your physician for a full hour, baseline labs are reviewed, and a care plan is built around your real data — the markers to watch and the next check-in.

  3. Within 90 days

    Sandbar becomes the habit

Recheck labs come back annotated, your plan updates as data comes in, and the platform is where your health questions go first — instead of Google or the ER.

What people ask first.

Is it really free?
Your employer covers your Sandbar membership — your care team, navigation, and the platform. There's nothing extra from us and no deductions from your paycheck. Some care still runs through your health insurance, so your plan's usual costs can apply there — but we'll always flag any cost up front, never after the fact.
Do I have to give up my current doctor?
No — and you don't have to pick a new one to get value. Keep the doctor you already have and we coordinate around them, choose a Sandbar physician who's genuinely yours, or do both. What matters is that your care finally has one place that holds the whole picture.
Will you reach out, or do I have to?
We reach out. After your employer's invite, you sign up (about five minutes), a care coordinator welcomes you within a business day, and we message you open times for your Welcome Visit. The one action we ask of you is to pick a time — your first visit happens within your first 30 days.
Do I have to get labs, and how does that work?
Baseline labs help your doctor start from a real picture of your health, but you have options and may not need a new draw: import recent labs you already have, have a phlebotomist come to your home, get drawn at a Sandbar clinic where open, or use a Quest/LabCorp location. Your coordinator arranges whichever you prefer, and results come back in the app with your doctor's notes.
What about evenings and weekends?
A 24/7 clinical triage line is staffed by clinicians who have your chart on screen. Unlike a typical urgent care or nurse line, they actually know your history and can act on it.
What if I'm remote or live outside the DMV?
The full virtual offering — same physician, same platform, same team — works from anywhere in the country. The clinic is for DMV-area members who want in-person visits; the relationship doesn't depend on it.
Can my employer see my health information?
No. They see population-level signals only — never individual records. The firewall is built into the data model, not just the policy.

Coordinated care is half the model.

Most of what you see here is how Sandbar delivers your care. The other half is how it's paid for — and Sandbar is built to become the plan that covers your care too, so one team both treats you and pays for it.

Half 1 · Today

Concierge primary care experience

A doctor who knows you and a team that carries the system for you — coordinated, concierge-level care.

Half 2 · Next

The plan that pays for it

Over time, the same team becomes the health plan behind your care — so coverage and care finally pull in the same direction.

The care comes first; the plan follows from it.

A team in your corner, from your first message.

Leave your work email and we'll send your invite first — getting started takes about two minutes when we launch.
